Hunter College – North Building, 6th Floor Laboratories

As part of Contract CITYW-CUCF-01-09, Task Order No. 2, Epic was selected to provide CM/Design/Build Services for the gut renovation of existing facilities for re-use as a new Bird Song Behavioral Laboratory and Psychology Laboratory suites on the 6th Floor of Hunter College’s NYC landmarked North Building. The Bird Song Behavioral Laboratory Design / Build project created a research suite two behavioral laboratories, a preparation room, a general work station area, a conference room and a private office.   Extensive program and design was required through the design phase for this unique laboratory used to study human speech through songbirds imitating complex sounds during development.

The Psychology Laboratory projects involved the creation of suites that included wet labs, surgery space, chronic testing rooms, private offices, professor/student meeting spaces, faculty offices, conference/lab meeting areas, fish labs, a histology room, an experiment room and electrophysiology rooms. The project was planned and coordinated during the heavily occupied and active semester programs at Hunter College and was successfully completed with a six-month construction duration, no loss time injuries or incidents and less than 5% change orders.
